Pompeya y una villa romana. Arte y cultura alrededor de la bahia de Napoles (Pompeii and the Roman Village. Art and Culture around the Bay of Naples) is an international exhibition part of the Great Civilizations cycle of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH)  that arrives to Mexico thanks to the cultural exchange program between our country and Italy. “Teotihuacan, City of Gods” will be exhibited at Palazzo delle Esposizione, in Rome, during 2011.

The exhibition arrives to the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City to offer visitors a journey through quotidian life at Roman villas in Pompeii and Herculaneum during the early 1st century BC. A hundred pieces guide us through the luxury and sophistication reached at this region of the Mediterranean Sea, before being buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 of the Common Era.

Curatorial work was in charge of C. Mattusch. It proposes a tour through courtyards, gardens and interiors, with a museographic script based on audiovisual resources, achieving recreation of the disposition and refinement of spaces destined to be enjoyed. Exquisite Roman art developed to decorate villas and dress aristocracy is reflected in sculptures, ornaments, furnishing, fountains, mosaics and personal objects exhibited.

Pompeya y una villa romana. Arte y cultura alrededor de la bahia de Napoles, is divided in Patrons and Owners, Interiors, Courtyards and Gardens, and Taste for the Ancient. It will be open until February 14th 2010.

Pompeii and the Roman Village: Art and Culture around the Bay of Naples was organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, in association with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, with the cooperation of the Direzione Regionale per i Beni Culturali e Paesaggistici della Campania and the Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Napoli e Pompei.

The exhibition was presented in the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., from October 19th 2008 to March 22nd 2009, and in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from May 3rd to October 4th 2009.
